Area Representatives for Area 10, Area 14 and Area 15 are needed! Come help set the future direction for our Association Where are the areas?Click hereHere is what the "job" of Area Representative consists of: * Board of Directors' Area Representatives run a Fall Membership Drive in their area. * They supervise the distribution of Meadoword newsletters in their area 5 times per year. * Representatives attend meetings of the Board on the first Tuesday of each month. * Area Representatives are encouraged to keep abreast of the concerns of their immediate neighborhood area and act as a liaison with the City or the Meadowood Board of Directors on any issues that arise in your Area. * Each year the Association sponsors 6-8 events, and Area Representatives coordinate many of the projects, so occasional opportunities for planning and supervising Association events (and recruiting others to help!) are also a part of the "job." * Our "jobs" are designed to fit in with an active schedule and a family as much as possible. We try to keep hours required by any one position to under 4 hours per month. Of course, the person filling in a job may choose to spend more or less time with the group, depending on your desires!
Join our Traffic Issues Committee As you may have noticed from the number of traffic-related announcements on this website, traffic issues are a HUGE concern with the residents of the Meadowood Neighborhood. The members of the Council, and our Alderperson are receiving numerous complaints and talking to many residents who are very concerned about the traffic problems, congestion, speeding, and road rage incidents they are facing.
We are working hard to address these issues to the best of our abilities, but we would like your help and participation in our efforts. Last Fall, we created a standing committee to work on traffic issues and develop active responses to the problems in the neighborhood. This committee will work on the "slow down" sign campaigns and special emphasis weeks that address "safe neighborhood" issues.
We work with the Safe Community Coalition and our other local neighborhood associations (Orchard Ridge, Prairie Hills, Stone Ridge, and Greentree) as we address the concerns that we all are facing. We also participate in the re-design of the Verona Road/Beltline traffic routes and have a representative on this citizens' planning committee.
If you would like to join our Traffic Committee and help us address these issues in an organized, more powerful fashion, please contact the chair of this committee, Larry Luther at 271-8787.
Become a Block Captain! Block Captains in our Community Association are the very root of the organization and the key to our success! Block captains work in their immediate area to assist their Area Representative with delivery of Meadoword newsletters. They keep contact with their neighbors to make our neighborhood a friendly one where everyone knows their neighbors and is comfortable in the neighborhood. They also help with canvassing for memberships in their area each Fall. Some Block Captains work with their Area Representative to throw summer block parties! Would you like to take responsibility for some of the homes surrounding you? Contact your Area Representative or a Board member to volunteer for this very important job.
Join the Meadowood Neighborhood Association Social Committee! The Association currently sponsors seven events each year and we would love to have volunteers bring new ideas and energies to these projects plus some NEW ones we would like to develop. These events are listed below in order of when they occur. Vitense Golf Event (early March) Neighborhood Garage Sale (The neighborhood goes "on sale" in mid-May.) 4th of July Picnic and Parade (The parade runs around Meadowood Park at 10:30 a.m. on each 4th of July. We always have a "theme" so the children can dress up and decorate their bicycles and other transportation. Prizes for the best costumes and decorations are given within several age groups. That afternoon, at 1:00 p.m., we hold a picnic, free to all members, at Elver Park's old shelter complete with door prizes, soda, and all you can eat!) Winter Bingo Party (The Bingo Party is normally put on at a local hall in early November.) Santa Visits (Santa and his elves make their appearance in early December.) Contact any of the Board Member to volunteer.
